In Memory

Sheliah McHugh (Ekstrum)

Sheilah Michael Ekstrum passed away on 4/13/22 in Coon Rapids at the age of 81. She was the loving daughter of James L. McHugh and Doris C. McHugh (Nelson).  Classmates may recall that Sheilah was part our class until our senior year, when she moved with her family to Minnetonka, where she actually graduated.  But she had been a dear friend of our classmate Robert (Bob) Ekstrum, Jr. (who passed in 2010), and we always thought of them as a couple that would someday be together forever.

Sheilah and Bob were attendees at all of our class reunions over the years, and most of us forgot that Sheilah had left us for just one year.  So, when we set up our names in this website's data base, we include Sheilah at that time, even though she technically was not a graduate with us.  Nevertheless, you will find part of Sheilah's life story, and her picture, in The Luckiest Generation booklet as a part of Bob Ekstrum's page.

Sheilah had a loving heart for all animals and had many pets during her lifetime. Most of all, she loved her friends and family. Preceded in death by parents, and husband Robert Jr. Survived by brothers Timothy (Diane), Michael (Danielle); children Robert III (Margaret), Michael (Jayme), and Jolene (Jim) Freeman; grandchildren Shania, Chloe (Jeffery) Symens, Meg, Olivia, Brenna, Jovie, and James; nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Private interment.

So many memories! Sheilah and I were friends in grade school as well as at St Louis Park High School. Our group consisted of Kay Yahn, Karla Rick, Barb O'Neil, Diane Glickman, Sheilah and myself. We continued to see each other after her family moved to Hopkins for her senior year.  Bob "Buddy" Ekstrum was her constant companion. I will miss her.
