Ronald Maas

Ronald Maas

Ron Maas passed away at almost age 68 on April 5, 2008.  Ron Maas was born on April 6, 1940, in Kasota, Minnesota.  He moved with his parents Ernest and Adeline, as a small child, to St. Louis Park where he grew up.

He entered into eternal rest while at home in Sauk, Centre, Minnesota, at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 29 days.  Ron apparently just didn't want to turn age 68.  His survivors include his wife Joan (Heckman) Maas, and their daughter Debbie-Jo O'Brien, and twin sons Todd Ronald Maas, and Troy Donald Maas, four grandchildren -- Jacob and Patrick O'Brien and Danielle and Joey Maas.  He also left behind a brother, Jerry Maas and sisters Sally Wiberg, Sandy Anderson and Vicki Trettel.  Ron loved all his grandchildren very dearly, especially the oldest one, Jacob, for Jacob always remained "grandpa's special pal" and companion to Ron.

For his life's work, Ron was employed as a printer and then as a mailer at the Star Tribune newspaper.  He worked there all his life and took early retirement at age 57, retiring in 1997.

Ron lived in New Hope, Minnesota, until his retirement, and then he moved with his wife Joan A. (Heckman) Maas to Sauk Centre, where they had a home on the shores of Big Sauk Lake.  He built that home himself, with the aid of his brothers.  He enjoyed fishing, taking trips, going to the casino (he was always pretty lucky!) and he especially enjoyed riding around the lake home in his golf cart.  His golf cart was his legs.  Ron enjoyed golfing in his early years.  But he had suffered a lot from weakness in his legs during his last 15 years.  So the personal golf cart was his way of getting around in a far less aggravating manner.

Ron had hoped to be able to attend his 50th anniversary high school class reunion; but, alas, the good Lord had other plans for him.

Ron was a man who liked to have a lot of fun, and he did so at every opportunity.  Every member of his family will miss him, and so will the Class of '58 of St. Louis Park High School.
