In Memory

Robert Huebner

Robert Huebner

Robert "Bob" Huebner, 1939 -- 2018

Robert "Bob" Arthur Huebner, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA after a long and arduous battle with prostate cancer.  He was born to Jack and Borghild Huebner on December 1, 1939, in Fargo, ND.  Bob grew up in St. Louis Park, however, and graduated from Macalester College in 1962.

Bob was married to Karen (Graf) Huebner on June 3, 1967.  The Huebner family grew to include three children, Steven, Amy and Ann.

Over the course of his 78 years, Bob would be the first to say that he wore many hats.  The list includes: Son, Brother, Friend, Army Reservist, Accountant, Husband, Farmer, Father, Controller, Small Business Owner, Grandpa, Train Enthusiast, Patient, Attendant and Volunteer.  Bob's passion in all of these areas made a lasting impact on those that he met and those that he served.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; his son Steve Huebner of Ankeny, IA; 2 daughters, Amy Huebner Miller (Shawn Miller) of Circle Pines, MN, and Ann Townsend (Brian Townsend) of Rosemount, MN; 4 grandchildren, Sophia, Zach, Casey and Theodore; sister Marcia Peterson (Sherman Peterson) of Sisseton, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other loved ones.

Bob was the first classmate that we recall who has been able to prepare his own notice, prior to his passing, that he wrote and expected would appear in his own story in this "In Memoriam" section of our Class Website.  We guess that's really thinking ahead; it rather took us all by surprise, for we did not know that Bob was suffering from cancer.  He was able to keep it a secret until the very end.  Bob was a musician in high school and played in the band all four years.  He served as Treasurer in the Hi-Y and played a part in the Spring Play in our Junior Year.

At 2:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2018, family, friends and others whose life Bob touched are invited to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave., Ames, Iowa 50010, for a memorial service, with coffee and fellowship to follow.  Knowing Iowa weather, an open house will also be held in Minnesota at a later date to be announced.

In celebration of his life, we remember Bob's favorite Bible verse: Psalm 118:24  "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Bob really lived his favorite Bible verse.  Bob was always happy and kind to everyone all through school. I knew  Bob all 6 yrs at Park HS and also graduated from Mac. We carpooled one yr. of college.and Bob was pleasant all those early mornings, even when the rest of us were a little grouchy.  What a great guy.  He will be missed, but will have a special spot in Heaven.Mary Reid Brooks
