David Dahl Jr. VIEW PROFILE

David Dahl Jr.

David Dahl, Jr. passed away on September 28, 2010, at his home in Minneapolis, at age 69, after a courageous battle with cancer, only a week before his 70th birthday.  According to his wife, Barb, Dave's cancer started as esophageal cancer, which eventually spread to his liver and other organs.  She noticed that Dave had suddenly started to lose weight and could not stop the loss.  That's when he was finally diagnosed with cancer.  He died at home, where he preferred, and was grateful for the attendance at his life's end by Fairview Hospice.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Barb, of 47 years, his brother, Christopher T. Dahl, his sister, Debby Dahl Edwardson (George), sister-in-law Bev Eliason (Denny), brother-in-law Jim Nordvall (Dorothy) and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Barb and Dave traveled extensively throughout the U. S., as well as Canada and Mexico.  Dave enjoyed fishing throughout the U. S. as well as in Canada, Costa Rica, and while stationed in Taiwan.  He also enjoyed boating, hunting, photography, snowmobiling and reading.  They both took early retirements at age 56 -- Barb from Prudential Insurance Co., and Dave from 3M.  They exclaimed that without a doubt, early retirement was the best dicisions they had ever made.  Dave and Barb did not have any children of their own.  Instead they enjoyed their travels.  After retirement, they kept their primary residence in Minneapolis; but they spent most of the summer at their island located in northern Minnesota, near the Canadian border, and in the winter they left for Naples, Florida, in mid-January and returned the first part of April.

After high school graduation Dave served for 4 years in the U. S. Air Force, stationed at San Antonio and Wichita Falls, Texas, Taipei, Taiwan and Tacoma, Washington.  The Pacific Northwest was wonderful for backpacking, skiing and camping, and Dave enjoyed all of these outdoor experiences; but he returned to the University of Minnesota and completed his college education, receiving a B.A.  He worked for 3M for 28 years.  Following his retirement, he and Barb loved spending summers at their Elbow Lake Island cabin in Northern Minnesota and winters in Naples, Florida.  While at 3M Dave was actively involved in Junior Achievement, and throughout his life was a dedicated member of the National Rifle Association and DU.  He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Lone Lake Ski Club.

Although Dave was a very quiet person in high school, and didn't join any sports team or other co-curricular activities, he was, according to his wife, a person who blossomed later in life and became an engaging individual.  Dave always looked forward to our class reunions.  He really enjoyed the 45th and 50th reunions specifically, and was glad he had the opportunity to see everyone from our class that attended those events.  Dave made the observation that "life is good and everything was wonderful!"  Let us all hope we can make the same claim.
