Barbara Books (Lehan)

Shortly after graduating from SLPHS, Barbara began working as an office clerk at the Sears Building on Lake Street.  In 1961 she married James Lehan, also of St. Louis Park, and she quit working at Sears after the birth of her first son in 1963.  Active in the community, Barb frequently volunteered at the Minneapolis Public Library and served as an election judge for a number of years.  She was very involved in neighborhood and church activities.  Her hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, ceramics and other arts and crafts.  She loved to travel, seeing Arizona, Las Vegas, and Washington DC among other places.  Family and friends were always very important to Barb, and she enjoyed spending time with her many relatives and friends.  She also kept fond memories of growing up in the Twin Cities, and a simple drive revisiting the places of her childhood provided her with much happiness.  Apart from living in Maple Grove for about ten years in the 1960s and 1970s, Barb spent her years after high school living in Hopkins.

Barbara passed away in 1987 after a very long battle with cancer.  In addition to her husband of 26 years, she is survived by two sons, a daughter plus one grandson and one granddaughter.
